Heidi spent her life as a dog used for her puppies, but when she was no longer of use her ‘owner’ wanted to abandon her in the woods. Thankfully his neighbour called us to tell us about a beautiful purebred German Shepherd that was kept on a chain and about to be abandoned in the woods in winter. After a long conversation, we convinced her owner to give her to us. He told her that if she misbehaved, we could just hit her with something. We couldn’t believe it!
What we thought was an old dog, with gray hair and lots of fear, turned into a young 2 year old ( born in 2020) who couldn’t believe she was in a home! For weeks she just ran in circles, jumping on the furniture and enjoying being free and having a place that was hers. Now she has learned that she can lay where she wants, cuddle who she wants, and do what she wants. She now acts like all dogs should. She loves her family and her dog siblings, but can sometimes be a little guarding of her family. This is normal for a dog who was treated like trash and needs a loving family to teach her what a family is.
