Koko's story is a hard one to tell. Living on the streets in Montenegro, he created a lifelong friendship with one of the other street dogs, Bella. They were taken to gether to the public shelter to be sterilized, and seperated int odifferent cages. Koko couldn't stand to be away from his girlfriend and fought to get to her: climbing the cages, escaping when he could to go to her. Not long after though, they were both to be returned back to the streets to once again search for food.

Through the donations of an amazing patron, both dogs were funded and saved! Koko was lucky enough to be adopted by his saviour, and Bella was give nthe chance to find a family of her own. After a 6 month wait of rabies shots, titer tests, and problems with airplanes, Koko was home! It didn't stop there though. Unfortunately a previously unseen disease surfaced, but thanks to his adoptive parents, he got the best care possible! Even though poor Koko has had one thing after another, he is in the best family possible and is living his life with his new brother Puffy!

Thank you to our donors who make stories like this happen. If Koko had been returned to the streets, his leishmania would have surfaced eventually and been his death sentence. Instead, he will live a long and amazing life and be one more of our success stories!
